Corrections policy

How RealTech corrects errors: what counts as an error, how to report one, how a correction is marked and what happens to a withdrawn story.

What we consider an error

A wrong fact, figure, unit of measurement, model designation, name of a company or laboratory, date, specification or research stage; an inaccurate quote; a wrongly attributed source; outdated information without an update note. A render captioned as a photograph and a mistranslated term are errors too.

How to report one

Write to hello@realtech.media with a link to the story and a description of the error. If you have a source that supports your version, attach a link: it will speed up the check. Letters are read by people.

How we correct

  • A factual error is corrected in the text, and an “Updated” note appears under the article with the date and the substance of the edit, for example “Power corrected: 150 kW, not 150 hp”.
  • An update to a developing story does not create a new article: we add to the text and put the same note with the time.
  • If a story is not confirmed as a whole, we withdraw it. Its address returns code 410 and says that the story was withdrawn by the newsroom.
  • Typos and layout fixes that do not change the meaning are made without a note.

What we do not do

We do not correct silently and we do not delete stories without a trace. Before every edit of a text, its previous version is saved, and the newsroom’s decisions are recorded in a log.
